LeMoyne-Owen College is a fully accredited, four-year private historically black college located in Memphis, which is a city in the US state of Tennessee, serving as the county seat of Shelby County, with a population of more than 670 000 inhabitants, which makes it the 19th largest US city, the 3rd largest in Southeastern USA and the largest city of Tennessee state.
LeMoyne–Owen College was established in 1968 and it was formed through the merger of Owen and LeMoyne Colleges, both private, historically black, church-affiliated colleges, with the mission to provide freedmen an education.
The college occupies a beautifully landscaped campus at 807 Walker Avenue, in South Memphis, the principal buildings on campus including Brownlee Hall, the major administrative building and the Alma C. Hanson Student Center, housing student lounges and recreation rooms, meeting rooms, a dining hall, staff offices, the Little Theater and the College bookstore, including the Hollis F. Price Memorial Library.
The sports teams at LeMoyne-Owen College are known as the Magicians and they compete in NCAA Division II, in various sports, for both men and women, among which there are basketball, cross crountry, golf, tennis, softball and cheerleading.
